Developed by Araitz Villalba Rodet (PhD candidate in Sustainability, ETSAV – UPC) and Fabian Lรณpez (Serra Hรบnter associate professor, Department of Architectural Technology, ETSAV – UPC), the case addresses energy vulnerability as a multidimensional challenge linking building performance, urban form, and the socio-economic context.
The study uses RETABIT tools:
โข ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐ป๐ฎ๐น๐๐๐ฒ to explore vulnerability patterns in the Besรฒs River area
โข ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ง ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐ป to design and compare renovation scenarios in La Pau (Sant Martรญ district)
The analysis contrasts RETABIT results with:
โข The Urban Regeneration Programme of Barcelona City Council (2022)
โข The income atlas of the National Statistics Institute
๐ This comparison highlights how methodological decisions (e.g., considering mean income instead of median income) and local context can significantly alter the โvulnerability mapโ.
๐ข Using ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ง ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐ป, the case considers two renovation scenarios (windows/faรงades/roofs, plus a building-level option including HVAC system upgrades), examining the balance between cost and impact in reducing energy poverty and improving comfort.
